What you should know about Savannah cats


Savannahs are a HyBrid domestic cat breed!

Their breed originates from a Bengal breeder who crossbred a Serval and domestic cat in 1986 producing the first Savannah. 


Physical appearance:

They are one of the larger breeds of the domestic cats.  They are tall and slim.  F1 and F2 generations are typically the largest due to stronger genetic Serval influence, they can get up to 15 to 30lbs, size is not guaranteed.  Later generations average 10 to 20lbs and some are the same size as Domestics.  Size and weight vary with each generation and gender and again are not guaranteed.  The coats vary depending on the breed of cat used to outcross.  Here at AbsoluteSV we strive for golden coats with bold black or brown spots, large ears with ocelli, boomerang shaped hooded eyes, tear-streaks, and long legs.  However, overall are goal is to meet TICA standards for the breed.  Approved colors are Black and Brown Spotted Tabby, Silver Spotted Tabby and Black Smoke.  To see Savannah Breed Standards go to:

Generations:

F1 - One parent is a Serval

F2 - One Grandparent is a Serval

F3 - One Great Grandparent is a Serval and so on.  Often measured in percent of Serval influence. 


Please note that usually F1-F4 generation males are STERILE.

Absolute Savannah Kittens is located in Elyria, Ohio. These hybrids Savannah cats are usually compared to as dog-like.  They have similar characteristics that you would see in dogs versus domestic cats.  That is mostly why they are so unique.  They are loyal!  Most follow you around the house like a dog.  Most can be trained to walk on a leash, yet the great part is they use the litter box.  They are social and friendly, often greeting their owners with head butts, chirps, and pounces.  They are very smart cats with enormous jumping abilities.  Just search youtube for videos!  Most can jump on top of doors, high cabinets and refrigerators from a standing position.  Unlike most domestics cats, most Savannahs LOVE water, often owners state how their Savannah bathes and showers with them, see video below.  Recommendations for feeding them varies from each breeder, from raw diets to eating dry cat food.  We feed dry kibble, wet food, and raw with added vitamins and supplements.


Here at AbsoluteSV we are a small in-home “cat family” located in Ohio.  Our cattery and our cats are TICA registered.  We breed F1A, F2B, F3C, F4SBT, F6C, and F6SBT Savannahs.  Our goal is to produce loving, wild looking, healthy, beautiful, long legged kittens.  Our kittens are raised in our home, under foot, with our two children and our other domestic cats.  Socialized and brilliant!


With Savannah cats - you get the best of both worlds.  You will get a wild looking, inquisitive, playful, energetic, loyal, smart, and loving friend.  The head butts, chirps, and loud purrs will melt your heart.  You will find yourself watching them for hours.  They are a joy to watch and a joy to be with.  We love our furry family and would not live without them.  We have had lots of breeds, and in our opinion, this one is among the greats!
